Keep clothing comfortable
Choose clothes that let everyone move easily and feel like themselves. Coordinating colours usually work better than identical outfits. For more ideas, read what to wear for family photos.
FAMILY & LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHY
I'm Olya Yizhak, a family photographer based in Bradford, Ontario. I photograph families as they really are: connected, expressive, sometimes playful, and never expected to hold a perfect pose for long.
My sessions focus on natural interaction and real moments, with light guidance whenever you need it. The result is a collection of candid, timeless photographs that feels personal to your family.
PLAN YOUR FAMILY SESSION
MY APPROACH
A family session does not need to feel formal to produce beautiful photographs. I look for the ways you naturally connect: the way a child reaches for a parent's hand, siblings making each other laugh, or the quiet moment when everyone settles in together.
I'll offer gentle direction when it helps—where to stand, how to use the light, or an easy activity that gives everyone something to do. Between those prompts, there is room to move, talk, play and respond to one another. You never need to arrive knowing how to pose.
Children are not expected to perform or smile on command. They can take time to warm up, explore their surroundings and be themselves. Those in-between moments often reveal the genuine family connection that makes a photograph meaningful.
THE EXPERIENCE
Before your session, we'll discuss who is being photographed, the kind of setting you prefer and anything that will help your family feel comfortable. If you're unsure about clothing, you can send me your outfit options and I can help you think through colours and coordination.
During the session, we work at a pace that makes sense for your family. Young children may want to walk, investigate, have a snack or take a short break. That is normal. Instead of fighting their energy, we can use movement and play to create photographs that feel lively and honest.
You can expect a combination of gently arranged portraits and candid interaction. I will guide you when needed, but I won't ask everyone to remain stiff or repeat a forced smile. The goal is for the experience—and the finished photographs—to feel like you.
YOUR FAMILY, AS IT IS NOW
Family photographs can mark a major change or simply document an ordinary season before it passes. Sessions may include parents and children, siblings, maternity photographs with a partner or children, a birthday or another childhood milestone, or an extended family gathering.
The right session length depends on the size of your group and what you would like to create. A shorter session can work well for a small family or a quick update, while extended families, newborn lifestyle sessions and larger groups have more room to settle in during a full session. The current options are explained on the Photography Pricing page.
WHERE WE PHOTOGRAPH
Bradford and Bradford West Gwillimbury are my home base. Outdoor sessions can take place in Bradford or in surrounding communities such as Newmarket, East Gwillimbury, Aurora, Innisfil and Vaughan when another area is more convenient or better suited to the look you want.
A good location does not need to be elaborate. A park, neighbourhood, trail, your home or another meaningful place may all work, depending on the light, season and size of your group. If you already have somewhere in mind, tell me about it. If not, I can suggest options based on convenience and the atmosphere you want.
Please note that some faces shown in the website portfolio may have been digitally changed to protect privacy and identity.
BEFORE YOUR SESSION
Choose clothes that let everyone move easily and feel like themselves. Coordinating colours usually work better than identical outfits. For more ideas, read what to wear for family photos.
Make sure children are rested and fed when possible. Bring water and a small, non-messy snack for younger children, along with an extra layer for outdoor sessions.
There is no need to ask children to smile or behave for the camera. Giving them room to explore and warm up often leads to more natural expressions.
I will help with positioning and simple prompts, then leave room for conversation, movement and interaction. You can learn more in what to expect during a photography session.
SESSION OPTIONS
Micro, Mini and Full sessions are available for different family sizes and photography needs. Because prices and package details are maintained in one place, please review the current session lengths, inclusions and delivery information on the Pricing page.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Choose comfortable clothing that looks like you. Coordinating colours usually photograph better than identical outfits, and you are welcome to send photos of possible outfits before the session.
That is completely normal. Children do not need to sit still and smile for the entire session. Exploring, playing and laughing can lead to some of the most genuine photographs.
Sessions can take place throughout Bradford and surrounding areas. We can choose a park, neighbourhood, home or another location that suits the season, your convenience and the look you want.
Standard delivery is approximately 10 business days per hour of photography coverage. Timing may vary depending on the session and season.
If conditions are not suitable for an outdoor session, we can discuss changing the time, choosing another location or rescheduling.
